Mumbai / November 11, 2024: Canada has tightened its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program, effective November 1, 2023. The new rules introduce language proficiency requirements and specific field-of-study criteria to streamline eligibility for international students seeking post-graduation work opportunities in Canada.
Applicants must now demonstrate language proficiency in English or French through recognized tests like IELTS, CELPIP, PTE Core, TEF Canada, or TCF Canada. Additionally, their field of study should align with one of the five priority sectors: agriculture and agri-food, healthcare, STEM, trades, or transport.
While the general eligibility criteria and location requirements remain unchanged, these new measures aim to better match international graduates with Canada’s labor market needs. By focusing on language proficiency and in-demand fields, the government seeks to attract skilled talent and address labor shortages.
