Edtech Startup Suraasa Raises $6M to Address Global Teacher Shortage

New Delhi, October 23, 2024: Suraasa, a platform focused on teacher development and global teacher mobility, has secured $6 million in a funding round led by Reach Capital.

This investment will empower Suraasa to tackle the critical challenge of teacher shortages worldwide. The company plans to utilize the funds to enhance the quality of teachers, equip educators with globally relevant skills, and streamline their integration into diverse educational systems.

Suraasa offers competency-based training programs and works closely with schools internationally to understand their specific needs. They then strategically match highly skilled Indian teachers with these schools, ensuring a win-win situation for both parties.

“The global shortage of qualified teachers is a significant obstacle, and solving it requires innovative solutions and a strong commitment to the future of education,” said Rishabh Khanna, Founder and CEO of Suraasa. “These partnerships are a testament to the impact we’re creating. Together, we’ll accelerate the movement towards a world where teachers are empowered to succeed in any classroom, anywhere.”

The funding round also saw participation from ETS Capital, NB Ventures, TSM Ventures, TRTL Ventures, and other prominent strategic investors. This influx of capital will allow Suraasa to scale its operations internationally, build robust teams, and develop advanced systems to maximize its impact. Additionally, the company aims to connect more teachers with world-class opportunities.

“Schools around the globe, including those in the U.S., are facing critical teacher shortages,” said Jennifer Carolan, Managing Partner at Reach Capital. “Suraasa addresses this challenge by training a global teacher workforce. We were drawn to Suraasa’s commitment to the teaching profession and their respectful approach to educators. We are excited to invest in their mission.”

With this funding, Suraasa is poised to make a significant contribution to closing the global teacher gap and ensuring access to quality education for all.
